Next nap

Plus · free during early access

Next nap likely 7:40 PM to 7:55 PM

Awake 30m, since 6:25 PM.

Based on Wren's own last week (41 awake stretches).

Tired signs to watch for

Yawning, rubbing eyes or ears, staring off, going quiet, fussing, or turning away from play. Starting the wind-down when these show up often goes more smoothly than waiting for the clock.

Traditional practiceHow sure is this?

Widely practiced and generally harmless, but with little solid evidence behind it.

Awake-time ranges are widely used by parents and sleep consultants, but there's little formal research behind exact numbers. Treat this as a rough guide, follow your baby's cues, and always put them down on their back in a clear crib.

Next up

Next checkup

A check on growth and feeding, and on how you're doing too.

1-month checkup

Due next week

What happens
  • Weight, length and head size, plotted on a growth chart
  • A full physical exam
  • Questions about how your baby moves, looks and responds
  • Questions about hearing and vision
  • A short questionnaire on how you're feeling, to check for postpartum depression
  • Questions about how your family is doing, including your own well-being
Vaccines commonly given
  • Hepatitis B (2nd dose, at 1 to 2 months)
  • antibody (nirsevimab or clesrovimab), if due for the season

Vaccine schedules vary, and since 2025 the American Academy of Pediatrics and CDC have published different ones. This list follows the AAP schedule and shows what's commonly given, but the exact timing and brands differ between practices. Your pediatrician will confirm what's due at each visit. RSV protection for babies depends on the season and on whether an RSV vaccine was given in pregnancy. If a dose is missed or you're behind, catch-up is possible, and the series doesn't need to start over.

Questions to ask
  • Is my baby gaining weight well?
  • How much crying is normal, and what helps?
  • Does my baby need vitamin D drops?
  • How do we keep sleep safe?
  • Is what I'm feeling normal, and where can I get support?

Today’s read

A myth, a question and some good news, new each day.

Mythbuster

False

“Babies with reflux should sleep on their stomachs.”

What’s true

On the back is still the safest position, including for babies who spit up a lot. Stomach sleeping raises the risk of and isn't a treatment for reflux. Raising the head of the crib or using wedges isn't recommended either.

Well establishedHow sure is this correction?

Major medical bodies agree on this. Treat it as standard guidance.

This rating is for the correction above, not the myth.

Question of the day

How much tummy time should we be doing?

The suggests tummy time from the first days home, while your baby is awake and someone is watching: a few minutes at a time, a few times a day, building up to 15 to 30 minutes in total a day by about 7 weeks. Lying tummy-down on your chest counts. It strengthens the neck and shoulders and helps prevent flat spots. If they fuss, try shorter sessions more often. Sleep is always on the back.

Good news

Childhood vaccines have saved an estimated 154 million lives over the past 50 years, 101 million of them babies.
