How today is tracking against what is typical for this age.

Trends
Nothing logged in the last few weeks. Once you log on the Today tab, sleep, naps and anything else you track show here day by day, so slow changes are easy to spot.
Sick day
Temperatures and symptoms, with what the AAP says to do at Rowan’s age.
Nothing logged in the last 3 days. On a sick day, log temperatures and symptoms as you go, to see what the AAP says and to tell the doctor exactly what happened.
When to get help
- Call 911: can't be woken, too weak to move, severe trouble breathing, or purple or blood-colored spots on the skin.
- Go to the ER now: a stiff neck, a seizure with the fever, hard to wake up or confused, or (under 1 year) a bulging soft spot.
- Call the doctor now: looks very ill, trouble breathing, unusual sleepiness or fussiness, an unexplained rash, repeated vomiting or diarrhea, signs of dehydration, severe sore throat, trouble swallowing or ear pain, pain when peeing, can't move an arm or leg normally, has been somewhere very hot (like a hot car), shaking chills lasting more than 30 minutes, or a fever with a heart problem or a weak immune system.
- Under 3 months: a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher means calling the doctor now, even if your baby seems fine.
Medicine doses come from your child's doctor or the package; CradleOn doesn't give doses. The AAP says never to give a child aspirin, ibuprofen isn't for babies under 6 months, and under 12 weeks no fever medicine before your baby is seen.
General information from the AAP, not a diagnosis. Your doctor knows your child best.
Teething
When: First teeth usually come in between 6 and 10 months. Teething discomfort can start weeks or months before, possibly as early as 3 months.
Fussiness, drooling, chewing on things, and a drool rash around the mouth.
What helps
- A firm rubber teething ring (not liquid-filled, and not frozen solid).
- A clean, chilled, damp washcloth to chew on.
- Rubbing the gums gently with a clean finger.
- Pain medicine only if your child's doctor advises it, at their dose.
What to avoid
- Numbing gels with benzocaine or lidocaine. The FDA warns benzocaine can cause a rare, serious drop in blood oxygen, and lidocaine can cause seizures and heart problems.
- Homeopathic teething tablets.
- Amber, wood or bead teething necklaces and bracelets: the FDA has reports of deaths from strangling and choking.
The AAP says teething doesn't cause a true fever. At 100.4°F (38°C) or higher it's likely an illness, so call your pediatrician.

The line is just the numbers you typed, no percentiles, and no verdict on whether a weight is where it should be. Your pediatrician plots growth properly at checkups and is the person to ask about it.

Today’s read
A new myth and a new question each day.
Mythbuster
“Time-outs damage the bond with your child.”
What’s true
Short, calm time-outs, about a minute per year of age, are a recommended discipline tool. Used alongside plenty of warmth and praise, they give everyone a chance to cool down without harming the relationship.
PromisingHow sure is this correction?
Some good quality research supports this, but it is not settled science.
This rating is for the correction above, not the myth.
Question of the day
How often should my child see the dentist?
Usually every six months, though your dentist may suggest a different schedule based on your child's risk. Regular visits catch decay while it is small, and fluoride varnish at checkups helps protect teeth. Many pediatricians apply varnish at well-child visits too.
Toddler years
From first birthday to kindergarten: checkups, safety, sleep and the big steps, surfaced as each one comes up.
Safety
- Stay rear-facing until the seat's limitOverdueTurn the seat forward only once they reach the highest rear-facing height or weight the seat allows. For many convertible seats that's well past age 2. Bent legs are fine.
- Use a booster only once the harness is outgrownA five-point harness is safest for as long as it fits, at least to age 4 and often to 5 or beyond. Move to a booster only when they pass the forward-facing harness limits.
- Teach their full name and your phone numberPractice it as a song or game. Also teach them who to ask for help if they get lost, like a parent with children or someone at a checkout.
Health
- Flu shot this seasonEvery fall, ideally by the end of October. Worth doing before they start school and meet a lot more germs.
- Hearing test at the 4 year checkupA quick screen with headphones. Ask sooner if you have any worries about their speech or hearing.
Big steps
- Register for kindergartenUsually in the spring before they start. Check your district's age cutoff and what documents you'll need, like proof of address and vaccination records.
